I notice a few other people here seem to keep late hours too.
I have major issues with my sleep times; I seem to be permanently in  a cycle where I go to bed later and later each night.  hen I catch up on sleep by staying in bed much of the day. There seems to be something out of kilter with my body clock.
How do the rest of you manage staying up until say 3.30am. Do you still get up at a reasonable hour the next day? Do you get by with just a few hours sleep?

Why do you stay up really late?

When i was "younger" like in my 20`s and before i got married, i stayed up all hours of the night, i would even go to bed catch some sleep set the alarm to go off at 2am and get up!. And just fuck around, watch the news on TV, while watching the money markets on the computer, i would do this till about 5am head back to bed then get back up at 7am for the day. Now my personal life is a lot more complicated, and a certain human relies on me to be there 24/7, plus my work has me living from a suitcase,  So now i need sleep, but i find  heading to bed at 10.30-11 max and if i wake at 4am that`s a pretty darn good sleep for me now. A whole range on things can affect your sleep pattern, like the time you have dinner, stress levels, rampant sexy dreams Grin.   The time your stomach does its digestion in most humans is around 2am, this is when the body will actually consume protein, if you have a big meal, your stomach will work harder, hence the body will wake, you mite only wake up for a couple of minutes, and you will feel your stomach working. Some doctoers say have dinner early, or not  such a big meal, and take a protein drink instead. Who knows for sure we all different.

I'm shocking. Computer is mostly to blame though I've never been good at mornings.

I seem to work best at night, often my best work from midnight - 3:00. I'm not sure whether this is because its quiet or something else? Particularly if I get on a roll with something I just can't stop.

I tend to sleep 7-8 hours regardless of when I go to bed but it isnt quality sleep when you're heading to bed in the wee hours. Theres an awful lot of truth is the saying that its the hours of sleep you get before midnight are the best.

I hate being nocturnal but I havent figured out how to keep normal routines.

I used to find that when I was at Massey my best essay-writing would happen in the wee small hours. As you say I would get on a roll and it was so easy to just keep going, when the rest of the time it would be hard work.

My Psychologist is always telling me that "best sleep is before midnight" thing, but I have never felt that myself.

Re keeping normal routines - If you have a 9 to 5 job this forces you to get up at a certain time each day. If you don't then it is just down to willpower, of which I am sorely lacking, lol!

my best study hours at uni were also midnight till 3am - very quiet serene and I had generally been out socialising prior.

Now I generally go to bed at 1-2am and get up at 8am weekdays.

I wish I could goto sleep before midnight but if I do I wake up within a few hours.

My sleeping patten has gone up the Garden Path as it were. I have gone from one extream to another. When I went to School in the Middle East and here in NZ, I went to bed around 930pm and got up at 530am.

As a result of been brought up in and worked in the Airline Industry I have learnt to get away with little to no sleep. Having said that I have been awake for up to three days and as a result I was a wreck.

Now that my Family and Friends live overseas I need to stay online to stay in touch.

I also find that my sleeping patten during the winter and summer months are different. In winter I go to bed at around 230am and get up at 9am ish and during the summer I am in bed by 1am and up by 8am ish.

I'm exactly like this too heh... love these hours. Feels like whole world is asleep and you can do whatever the fuck you want.

I just hate sleeping actually. Waste of time. Most nights I end up staying up till anytime between 3 to 6am... which sucks when I have work in the morning haha, but I'm quite too used to it now heh Bluuurb just wing it. No big deal. Catch up on sleep on days when I don't have to get up for nuthin.

I know this is probably really unhealthy in the long term too but meh whatever Tongue I do what I want.

Great e-book I bought and used long ago.
Not much good if you can;t control your sleep enviroment, eg baby

It does work. Smiley
Good rundown on the mechanics of sleep too.
Quality not quantity.
Less sleep, more energy, what have you got to loose?

Now if you google "powerful_sleep_package" you may be able to download and review the full package before buying.

Another sleep related tangent I went on was Lucid Dreaming.
Great fun as well.  Cheesy

I am and have always been a morning person. I like to be in bed by 10pm, and get up at 5:30am. On a weekend I sometimes sleep in till 7am but it`s not often I can stay in bed longer than that!

I am not the best in the morning.  Bluuurb
I perk up in the afternoon, and work the best between 5 and midnight, generally knock off around 2 am.
But then I am often dealing with offshore markets so the time zones suit me better later at night anyway.
Maybe my Scottish ancestors mean I am more attuned to the Northern Hemisphere times anyway!

Being a night owl rocks  Cool

Ive worked at night for the past 5 and a half years.
In the past ive had day jobs as well as night jobs. I find i sleep better during the day than i ever did at night. I used to suffer from insomnia and could go anywhere up to 5 days without sleep. It sucked big time.
Now i sleep very well.
When you go to a party or go out you can party all night without feeling tired. Drinks
You have the afternoons to do what you like.
No waking up to an alarm clock. You just wake up in your own sweet time and can make a coffee and sit out in the sun with it and cruise into the day.
Night time seems to go quicker than working during the day ever did.
No monday morning blues.
less traffic which makes getting to and from work better and quicker. Especially in Auckland.
Im more awake and allert at night.
You dont get the heat during the summer making you feel tired.
Its cooler at night.
You could not pay me enough to switch back to working during the day.
Also as i have recently discovered you can go see a wl during the day if you wake up feeling horny.
You can be her first punter for the day not her last at the end of the day when all she wonts to do is go home.
i give being a night owl a healthy thumps up.  Thumbs Up
